Merlin e Arthur

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
July 2019

Creating magic on stage with an invisible scrim? The musical “Merlin e Arthur, um Sonho de Liberdade” did exactly that during its impressive première at the Riachuelo Theatre in Rio. Exciting 3D scrim projections on a tightly tensioned Tulle Aymond Mini brought to life the fictional character of Merlin.

Projecting on a stage scrim

Besides the lighting and content, various scenic elements and projections were specially designed to optimise the unique features of the scrim. It surely brought the optical illusion to the next level. By strategically placing reflective objects and an extra row of beamers behind the scrim, the light of the front projection could be captured and multiplied. The result was a stunning kaleidoscope of light and colour!

Balancing transparency and reflection

While the musical uses different art forms such as theatre, cinema and design, they all blend nicely together on the seamless and invisible Tulle Aymond Mini. The flame-retardant scrim serves as the director's canvas and adds a whole new dimension of creativity to the scene!
